Due to its remote location the natural inhabitants of the Mergui Archipelago in Myanmar (Burma), called Salon or Mokken still following the peaceful traditions of their ancestors and have not yet adapted to the modern way of life.
Most of the few remaining Salon families prefer the simple life of the Sea Nomads. Rather than staying in the village, these excellent divers and fishermen choose to live on their simple but very sea worthy wooden boats for most of the year and roam around the islands.
They make a living by collecting fish shells corals pearls and other valuables from the ocean, which they sell or exchange to other needed goods in the markets of the bigger Cities along the main coast.

The gateway to the archipelago is from Kawthaung (Victoria Point) a small bustling fishing village located at the southern most tip of Myanmar.

Join us on one of our famous Scuba Diving cruise and
Adventure Trips into the Mergui Archipelago in Myanmar
(Burma) and take the unique opportunity to explore new
exciting scuba dive sites and lush tropical islands, with
deserted coves and bays, fringed with pristine white sandy
beaches onboard our liveaboard vessel MV Nautica.
